SKIN CARE TIPS FOR
EVERY SEASON
Choosing skin health is a daily routine no matter what the season. The changing seasons call for some adjustments in skin routines. No matter what the temperature outside is, the changing seasons call for some adjustments in skin routines.
WINTER MONTHS:
-
To stay healthy, skin needs more than hats, gloves
and coats as layers of protection from the cold weather. The colder weather and
wind brings a lack of moisture outside and in that can cause cracking,
chapping, irritation and skin conditions such as eczema.
- DON'T TAKE LONG HOT SHOWERS: -
While
everyone enjoys basking a long hot shower, the hot water can strip the skin of
its natural elements – contributing to dry skin. Instead, use
lukewarm water for a shorter period of time.
- MOISTURES ON DAMP SKIN: -
Remember to moisturize
yourself immediately after a bath, while the skin is still damp. This
ensures that the moisture is sealed in, leaving the skin hydrated and
supple. Dryer areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees have thin skin and
tend to lose moisture faster than other area on the body.
- EXFOLIATE
TWICE A WEEK: -
Needless to say, exfoliation is a must to remove the dead cells and
to allow the new skin cells to come up, breathe and be moisturized.Using a
scrub once or twice a week should do the trick to rejuvenate the skin.
- USE NIGHT CREAMS: -
Don’t be lazy about the night cream routine. Follow it religiously. Use creams
without perfumes or paraffin’s. Lesser preservative makes for better longer
lasting creams.
· HOME REMEDIES: -
A few
home remedies never did anyone harm.
Here is a coup to keep your skin soft and nourished:

1. CURD TO THE RESCUE: -
Take curd, even straight from
the
fridge and apply it on extra dry skin or even on any rash. Leave it
on for about 20 minutes and then
wash it off with rose water or plain
water. This will leave your skin filling definitely healthier and softer.
Go ahead apply your night cream
after that.

· DRINK: -
We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks like cocoa and tea, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. A little warm water with lemon can be very refreshing and hydrating at the same time.
·
VITAMIN 'E' CAPSULES: -
Another trick is using Vitamin E capsules. Cut or burst open a capsule. Apply it directly to dry or mature skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes then wipe your face gently but thoroughly. Do not wash your face and apply your night cream. This can be done once a week. If the skin is too dry, then twice a week.
·
LIP LOCK: -
For the lips, a lip balm is a must. You can un-chap your lips by applying a vanilla scrub of two parts sugar, one-part olive oil, and a dash of vanilla essence mixed well together.
AUTUMN
MONTHS: -
As dry, cooler air arrives, skin may lose precious moisture. Autumn also
provides an opportunity to recover from the summer toll on the skin left by
sun, chlorine and saltwater.
- DO EXFOLIATE
AND MOISTURIZE: -
It’s
best to apply moisturizer directly after a bath or shower to help seal in
and replenish the skin with the necessary water and oils.
- DO PROTECT YOUR LIPS: -
Continue
to protect against the sun’s
ultraviolet rays. But also start moisturizing now
to prevent dry, cracked lips this winter.
- SWITCH FROM LOTION TO CREAM: -
As the air becomes
drier, skin needs a thicker moisturizer. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier
to provide hydration.
- INVEST IN HAND CREAM: -
Hands often
become dry and cracked during the winter. Start moisturizing hands now to
ensure soft and healthy hands all winter long.
- DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN: -
Even though the temperatures seem cooler and the days shorter, children
and adults should continue to apply sunscreen before heading out.
SPRING MONTHS: -
As soon as the day’s start getting longer and
spring is on the doorstep, you can put away your thick tights, cardigans and
glove. It's time to show off your skin again and bring out the spring fashions.
· MOISTURE SKIN: -
Before
you get to that stage, you should first say goodbye to your dry winter
skin. This is best done using a gentle scrub for your whole body. And for your face, you can choose from a range of NIVEA face creams and
cleansers, which will leave your skin cleansed right down to the pores. Afterwards,
you can moisturize your skin to make it silky soft with NIVEA Care range,
which hydrates intensively without leaving your skin feeling oily.
· EATING TO MAKE YOURSELF BEAUTIFUL FOR SPRING: -
If you want
to have beautiful l skin, you need to eat healthily. In spring we are more
inclined to enjoy fresh fruit and crispy vegetables. These foods
are not only healthy, they are also good for your skin:
foods with Vitamin A, such as carrots, broccoli and spinach stimulate cell
division, promote the formation of elastic fiber’s and prevent
dry skin. You should eat three to five portions of
fruit and vegetables, a day. This will help ensure that your skin is supplied
with important nutrients and you can look forward to having soft skin
again.
· DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN: -
Even
though the temperatures are just warming up, children and adults should continue to liberally apply sunscreen before heading outside.
Some states require children to obtain a doctor’s note in order to re-apply
sunscreen at school or day camp.
SUMMER MONTHS: -
· MOISTURIZE: -
Moisturizing is absolutely essential. Simply
moisturize, there are no two ways about it. You may think that winters are
over, and skip that part of your regimen, but no, not happening.
The problem with summers is the extreme
heat that dehydrates your body and makes your skin dry. Dry skin is prone to
damage and dullness, and you need to butter it up to make up for the moisture
loss. The moisturizer acts as a barrier for pollutants,
bacteria, and sunburn.
·
EXFOLIATE: -
For any treatment or
cream to work on your skin, it needs to be clean. For that, you need to
exfoliate at regular intervals to slough away the accumulated dead skin cells
that are clogging your pores and forming a layer on your skin. Exfoliation also makes your face a better canvas to
apply makeup on. Make sure you alternate between homemade and
market-bought exfoliates to maintain a balance.
- DRINK WATER: -
Yes, drink up and loosen up. We mean
water, lots of it. The problem with summer is, it makes you sweat a
lot, making your cells lose water quickly.
To maintain moisture levels
in your body and not feel weak or faint due to dehydration, you need to keep a
check on your drinking (water) game and get it right.
Ideally, drink at least 8-10 glasses of
water every day and include lots of fresh juices and fruits with high water
content in your diet.
· USE SUNSCREEN: -
Protect your skin with sunscreen before it gets
damaged by the sun, because, let me remind you, prevention is better than
cure. Sun rays are a cause for many skin issues, such as dry skin, brown spots,
and fine lines. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 (at least) and apply it
generously on your skin. Reapply it every few hours.
· FOLLOW A HEALTHY DIET : -
It all comes down to that, doesn’t it? A healthy diet – an excellent mix of fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals, and pulses. A fine balance of all the nutrients that your body requires.
During summers, increase the intake of
raw or boiled food. Include as many fruits and veggies in your meals
as possible – go for salads, smoothies, and juices.
Make sure you are getting enough calcium
as well. Also, nuts are an excellent addition because they are
excellent for your skin.
